Housing Works

Stepping into the gap

We came on board with Housing Works while the agency was in the the midst of the perfect nonprofit storm. They were simultaneously experiencing a leadership transition following the death of a beloved founder, a vacuum of fundraising staff in the wake of an unfortunate Development Director disaster, and there was big money coming down the pike with the passage of a local tax that would generate millions in new grants. They needed help fast and we stepped into the gap.

Housing Works innovates solutions to chronic homelessness with a “whatever it takes for as long as it takes” philosophy.

Quick Wins

In just the first 9 months, we secured $561,000 in grants and contracts, delivered $110,000 in pending grants and competed for rental subsidies to support long-term housing retention for chronically homeless participants.

Long-Term Strategy

We worked with staff to develop an ambitious capacity-building strategy so that agency infrastructure stands up to 100% projected growth over the next five years.

Carousel Ranch

Yes! has taken our grant writing to an entirely different level . . . I cannot even begin to tell you how much easier my job is because of what they have taken on.

Slow and steady wins the race

Yes! Ventures has served Carousel Ranch since 2002. When we came on board, the agency had just lost a quarter of its budget due to changes in state funding policy. We implemented a strategy that has grown with The Ranch from a budget of $200,000 to a budget approaching $1 million. And just as importantly, the grant revenue is nested in the organizational budget in a way that is sustainable year after year for the long-term.

The Teen Project, Inc.

With an entrepreneurial leader, this agency goes big or goes home. We focused on philanthropic funding in the short-term to innovate new programming and fill gaps while focusing on landing big service contracts for long-term sustainability. Mission accomplished.

This strategy was so effective it’s now being replicated with a major new expansion into Orange County, California.
